Discover Tazzarine, the capital of henna
“The meeting” of this Berber expression qualifies this important centre of production of henna alongside the foothills of the Anti-Atlas.
Tazzarine, a village of about 6,000 inhabitants, between Nkob and Alnif, established in the hamada du Guir, and not far from the peaks of Jbel Saghro, is made up of an urban center without much interest but endowed with charming ancient douars still inhabited in the palm grove.
There are some kasbahs in the friendly palm grove where the famous Tazzarine henna is cultivated, an oasis contrasting with the aridity of the surrounding rocky plains. The main artery is without charm, prefer to venture along the paths of the palm grove.
Many hikes to do, on foot, bicycle, horse, donkey back to discover this oasis hiding many treasures; gardens where is cultivated henna, marabouts, agoram in Berber, and old mellah. The famous relaxing sand baths practiced from May to July.
Ideas for visits to the surroundings
The sand dunes of Foum Tizza and Beraghwa, magnificent contrast of these two ergs in the rocky landscape of the reg that surrounds them. The natural oasis of Sedrar, as an invitation to stroll and picnic in a picturesque landscape.
We discover rock engravings in a good state of conservation, notably in the village of Aït Ouazik in the direction of Zagora, as well as some fossil prospecting sites.
This small village has a post office and 2 pharmacies in the centre as well as a “Ziz” gas station. Most of the small shops, cafes and cybers are situated as usual along the road through the village. The souk takes place on Wednesdays.
Rent a car and visit Tazzarine
There is no car rental in Tazzarine. A few independent agencies everywhere else or larger agencies in all the big cities of the kingdom.
Health at Tazzarine
It is difficult in these remote villages in southern Morocco to provide the necessary infrastructure for rapid and effective care. In Tazzarine, however, there is a health centre with a drug depot. The nearest hospital is in Zagora or Ouarzazate.
In this sense, thanks to the UNESCO fund and in partnership with UNICEF, we must salute the creation of a “mother’s home”, “Dar Al Oumouma” in 2004, a permanent home for women about to give birth. Located next to the treatment centre, it is supported by the medical team present. With its few ambulances, this structure has made it possible many times to preserve life.
The nearest airport is Ouarzazate.
