Sidi Kaouki
Surfing at full waves
Sidi Kaouki, 27 km from Essaouira by the road to Agadir, knows a local tourism where the inhabitants of the region like to walk along the beach and becomes a famous spot for surfers and other amateurs of sliding.
The village consists of small houses and a growing number of hotels and guest houses. A few decades ago, the virgin place of houses housed only the sanctuary of the marabout Sidi Kaouki.
Mausoleum of a veterinarian who, at the beginning of the 20th century, managed to save the goats of the region from a plague epidemic and was thus recognized as a holy man. Today, growth is being felt little by little and a wind farm stands out north of Sidi Kaouki.
Sea, Surf and Sun
But back to the beach, which with its windy climate, swell and waves, made Sidi Kaouki the spot we know; appreciated by windsurfers and surfers from the 4 corners of the globe.
The prevailing north-easterly winds blow particularly strongly during the summer months, favouring sailing sports in contrast to the winter months, when waves dominate the season allowing surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing.
Be careful with the powerful shore break type rollers, breaking quickly and strong currents.
The spots of Sidi Kaouki are perfectly suitable for intermediate levels for the practice of surfing and the various sports of sliding at sea, the temperature of the ocean oscillates between 15 and 17° in winter and 18 to 21° in summer.
On site, at the edge of the beach Sidi Kaouki, a surf/kite/windsurf school proposes the hiring of necessary material, as well as courses with the chart.
