Climbing in Morocco
Climbing in Morocco
With the extraordinary sites available to Morocco, climbing knows a certain craze among climbers around the world, but remains little practice by Moroccans.
It all started in the 1970s, when French climbers came to discover the kingdom to seek new adventure grounds. They discover a welcoming country, beautiful landscapes and gorges ideal for the practice of rock climbing.
Sports climbing sites along equipped cliffs can be found both in the High Atlas and in the Anti-Atlas.
Climb the Todra Gorge
The Todra gorges and their 300 metre high walls at their highest points represent the place of climbing par excellence, known by sportsmen for the quality of its ochre limestone rock. The popularity of climbing in the gorges of Todra, in addition to easy access, comes from the thirty sectors where evolve more than 350 routes of all levels, 4a to 8b, and of length oscillating between 25 and 300 meters.
Climbing is practiced all year round in the Gorges du Todra. The walls within the gorges themselves are recommended in summer and the outside walls are more suitable in the winter months. Be careful though, some splits are starting to fail and should be replaced.
On the spot, the rental of the necessary equipment and an insurance escort if necessary, is possible by contacting the shop Aventures Verticales.
Its main activity is the climbing, mountaineering and hiking coaching of the region’s tourist clientele. It also has a shop selling mountain sports products and offers rental equipment for the practice of activities that it frames or not.
